The Runtime of Quantumania Has Been Revealed (And It's the Longest Ant-Man Yet)

The duration for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania appears to have been disclosed, and the latest Ant-Man film may be the longest yet.

The length of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania appears to have been disclosed, and it may be the longest Ant-Man film ever. In 2015's Ant-Man, Paul Rudd played the Marvel Comics character Scott Lang for the first time. Since then, the size-shifting superhero has become an essential element of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in another solo film with Evangeline Lilly's Wasp aka Janet Van Dyne, as well as Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: End Game.

Of course, the MCU has moved on from many of the characters it introduced in its early stages. However, Ant-Man remains an important part of Marvel's plans, with a third standalone film planned to hit theatres in 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has already published an exciting teaser, and fans may have just learned the length of the upcoming MCU film. According to Fandango, the new Ant-Man film is 2 hours and 5 minutes long, making it the longest Ant-Man film by a very thin margin. Ant-Man and the Wasp ran 1 hour and 57 minutes, whereas the first Ant-Man ran 1 hour and 58 minutes.

How the Runtime of Quantumania Compares to MCU Phase 4 Films

Though Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a long Ant-Man film, it's really rather short in comparison to the normal MCU feature in recent years. Phase 4 does, in fact, follow the trend of ever-lengthening MCU epics, beginning with Black Widow at 134 minutes. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Twelve Rings, which ran for 132 minutes, was followed by Eternals, which went for 156 minutes (a runtime that may have contributed to its poor reception by critics and MCU fans).

The hit Spider-Man: No Way Home, which stretched for 148 minutes, didn't help matters when it came to long MCU movies. Then followed Dr. Strange In the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, which was just 126 minutes long, and Thor: Love and Thunder, which was only 119 minutes long. Phase 4 concluded with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a hugely epic 161-minute film.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania now begins off Phase 5 with a length that may feel a touch short in comparison to the MCU movies fans have been given to in recent years. However, considering Ant-place Man's in the larger Marvel universe, a shorter length seems acceptable. A Wakanda Forever-sized Ant-Man film would be really absurd. Given the superhero weariness that some believe has begun to set in at the box office, it will be fascinating to watch whether future MCU films similarly strive to keep things closer to the 120-minute mark.
